Photo tip

This photo was taken just after dawn in my home garden. It's one of my favorites. The soft early light and the dew still clinging to the rose petals give it a fresh and unique look. Can you smell the fragrance?

Time of day is an important consideration for outdoor photography especially when you're doing closeups of flowers and wider shots of garden scenes or vistas. Just before dawn or shortly before sunset can be excellent times for this kind of photography. The softer light and cool conditions are ideal.

It may surprise you to know that this picture was taken by my wife using her smart phone as she took an early morning walk in our garden.
